BLACK, DUN & RED GALLOWAYS

Galloways originated  from the South West of Scotland and there is documentation dating back to the 1600s of farmers in Scotland and England praising their size, style and symmetry.

This naturally polled breed is known in Great Britain, Europe, North America and Australia for its high quality, healthy beef.

Originally registered in the Polled Herd Book in Scotland, as were the Angus breed, it wasn't until 1877 that The Galloway Cattle Society was formed when the Galloway section of the Polled Herd Book was purchased.

In Australia there is evidence of Galloways being here as early as 1858 when Galloways were shown at the Port Phillip Farmers Society Show.  However it wasn't until 1951, after the importation of Galloways from Scotland, that a registering body was formed.

The Australian Galloway Association Inc was incorporated to provide a modern, pro-active organisation which assists breeders of Galloways, Belted Galloways, White Galloways and Miniature Galloways to register, transfer and promote their cattle.

The aims of the Australian Galloway Association are to achieve a dynamic and successful association that concentrates its resources around a unified plan and consistently meets the needs of its members and their clients.

The Australian Galloway Association Inc represent Galloway and Belted Galloway breeders around Australia with members in ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.
